My new solo instrumental album Flowers is out!  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

It took me a while to get this out, longer than I’d like considering it’s on my own label but now it’s out and it feels GOOD!  I love completing projects.  But it’s not done!  Now I have to actually sell some copies!  If you or your grandma or your friends on the internet would like to support the Dutty Artz movement and contribute to the cause of me buying diapers, catfood and continuing my lavish lifestyle for me and my young family that would be great!  There are many places to buy it.  Here is a list:

BUY MATT SHADETEK – FLOWERS:

Boomkat:
This is probably a good option if you want FLAC or any of those non-mp3 formats.
iTunes (USA):
If you buy here please write me a lavish review and give me five stars!  I deserve it!  If you’re browsing the store from your phone or whatever I am featured in front of the Electronic category in the USA store.
Juno:

FREE DOWNLOADS:
AND if you missed them you can get some free downloads including two songs from the album and a podcast DJ mix I did for XLR8R:

Funny Cats by mattshadetek

For those of you who missed my relentless Twitter assault promoting this mix here you go.  This is a 60 minute mix I did for the very excellent XLR8R podcast series.  I had a lot of fun recording it in the bassment of Dubspot on decks and Serato (no ableton or synch buttons on this one, it’s actual live djing and you can hear it).

It’s got a lot of new exclusives in it from me and my friends including some forthcoming stuff from Dutty Artistz Rita Indiana and Mosholu Park up front.

Download it here

Fucking big chune.  Dutty Artz familia Uproot Andy kills it again on the remix foot.  If you don’t know the original already you will hear it out of a car near you soon.  Super 2x double marinated remix wherein Los Rakas re-vocaled Hold Yuh Riddim by Brooklyn’s Ricky Blaze (vocaled by Gyptian under the same name) then Uproot Andy took the remix acapella and re-did the beat in his inimitable NY Tropical style.  New Yorkers if you are anywhere around us this summer you are gonna hear this again and again.  And again.  Also check the vocals over the original riddim here.

O’Neil Edwards 1/3 of Dancehall trio Voicemail.

Jamaica, please stop shooting your artists.

Voicemail come first on this Style and Swagga medley.

From Dancehall.Mobi:

‘Oneil Edwards, one-third of the popular dancehall group, Voicemail, was reportedly shot multiple times at the gate to his house in Duhaney Park, Kingston, early this morning, and is now undergoing critical surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital. Unconfirmed reports indicate that robbery was the motive, and that he was shot at least once in the head.’

I’ve been playing a lot of Voicemail tunes lately, especially the Style and Swagga version above and I would like all of them to continue making their great music.

Badmen of Jamaica, I would humbly request that you refrain from shooting any more artists, producers, djs or anyone else.  If you need to shoot someone please shoot each other and leave everyone else out of it.  Thanks.

Man, when Beyonce makes songs and videos like this it just really makes me hope that those scurrilous rumors about Jay-Z being gay are not true and that he is taking care of his responsibilities on the home front.  Otherwise, WHAT A WASTE!  I like this on a lot of levels.  Especially the Betty Page style old film look and costumes.  And although I don’t always feel what she does I think this song actually has some passion and intensity.

Sunday May 9th come see myself Matt Shadetek, Jahdan Blakkamoore and Uproot Andy at Glasslands for the Drink Well Do Good tour. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about viticulture (wine making) in Africa. It will also be a great Sunday night party with the Dutty Artz fam back at Glasslands for the first time since our New York Tropical parties. For everyone who has been asking me about those, don’t worry, we’re working on a few things for summer.

The organizers ISAW say:
“All proceeds from the tour will go towards to development of a viticultural training center on the M’hudi Estate in Stellenbosch. This campaign also raises awareness for our partners M’hudi and Seven Sisters, South Africa’s only two black-owned estates. ISAW is using the tour to introduce these wines to consumers, and support South Africa’s wine industry which employs nearly 300,000 workers. Please support our campaign through purchasing tickets, going to your local retailer, and becoming ambassadors for our cause.”

New York Ravers, next weekend come get dutty with me on Saturday night at an underground party in Soho details here. Thanks to everyone who came out to Oceans of Blood and skanked out this past Friday, great party. Seems like I’m getting asked more and more to play at these underground jams in informal locations more and more, I’m really happy to see them happening again after many years of being verrrry bored going to regular clubs in NYC. Support these events and let’s keep ’em happening.

Heatwave continuing to hott up the funky bashment axis. This time with a nice Natalie Storm – now crowned The Queen of Funky Bashment – over Footsteps “Worker” funky riddim. I’ve been playing this riddim a lot in my dj sets for the past few months and it always works, cool to hear Nats on it.

Natalie Storm & Footsteps – Play Di Ting (The Heatwave Refix) by GabrielHeatwave

Normally I get a lot of stupid shit in the form of press releases but today I actually got one with something cool in it. Publicists, just because I’m blogging about something I got in a release doesn’t mean you should send more! I hate them! What does this say about how we should all be promoting our music? I don’t know.

Anyway, Pursuit Grooves is a female producer/singer/rapper from BK who I’ve never heard of but has a new record out on dubstep label Tectonic although it’s not dubstep. I like what I’ve heard. Also, dubstep labels take note: you need more female energy. You are all turning (have turned) your genre into a big macho dick grabbing testosterone fest and it’s turning me off. As rising dancehall artist Professor says in one of my recent favorite songs:

“Nuff Bwaaaaaay / a gwan like dem nuh wan roll wit de gyal dem… Some bwaaaaay would rather roll out wit one bagga man fren… my yout it no look good.”
– Professor, Roll With The Gal Dem

And here’s the Professor tune I was quoting. Big tune on Don Corleon’s new Gala Riddim.

I actually LOLed at this one, posted by Eddie Stats over at Okayplayer’s new(?) Large Up blog. The last and first of his Toppa Top 10 fake reggae songs are the picks for me. Eddie Murphy taking a polished and very funny dig at Bob Marley (seems pretty clearly aimed, I could be wrong) and then some youtube guys hilariously misinterpreted transcription of Busy Signal (with jpegs!).

This Friday I will be swimming the Oceans of Blood with former Change Agent homies Orien McNeill and Zack Shadetek on a fundraiser for their crazy boat project. Open bar and a fake blood slip and slide and me djing from 11-1AM What more do you want, really?

Strange info after the jump>>

Dutty Artz extended family tree and recent Trouble and Bass artist 77Klash has a new leak for us via RCRDLBL with the stream and free download below. Check it out, Klash is heading off in an interesting, deadpan-dance direction. Produced by Sando Khan from Fort Green. BK Bashment let’s get it!

Here are some photos from Tormenta Tropical at SXSW. I don’t have time to write a long post but suffice to say I was honored to play with all these great people and have such a great party. You are all legendary and I love you. Photos by El Subcomandante Quito, full album here.
