By now, you’ve probably heard of DISCWOMANÂ – “a platform showcasing and representing the wealth of female-identified DJ talent in the electronic music community.” In an interview with THUMP late last year, DISCWOMAN founders spoke about why they created this platform:
Christine Tran: It has to do with the decision-makers. If I’m booking an event, I always book female DJs. But I don’t talk about it, I just do it.
Emma Burgess-Olson: Same! I don’t want to say, this is a girls-only residency. Because I don’t want people to know. I don’t want to highlight it, I just want to be a part of it.
Lauren Flax: We’re trying to balance the gender gap out, and bring light to an important issue. But it’s not the only thing we do, just one of the many.
And this week they are in FORBES.
“You can’t just talk about it, you have to do something,†says Frankie Hutchinson, who founded Discwoman with DJ Emma Olson and Christine Tran. “We saw that to change lineups we would have to get more control in booking, so that’s why we went into being a booking agency,†Hutchinson explained
So Riobamba and I (Ushka) are excited to have been invited to perform at Discwoman’s monthly residency at the W Hotel.
