A couple months ago I was introduced to the organizers of NYC’s first AfroLatino Festival. I went by the event and saw garifuna women performing and met some really amazing folks working innovative things in the sphere of cultural education. The AfroLatin@ Project is an organization that strives to utilize digital technology tools to record stories and create a more accurate database and historical record of often under-served communities. I think its an important project and an ideology similar to what I try and cultivate musically.
I’ve partnered with the organizers to bring a series of events in conjunction with Latin Heritage month that reflect on afro-latin heritage and culture. The events will be concentrated around the Ft Greene neighborhood so if you’re in BK stop by and say hola.
