Meet Lucio K from Kafundó Vol. 1

This is a guest post by Wolfram Lange, co-founder of Kafundó Records, and blogger at the Soundgoods website. In this post he gives us a little background on Lucio K. His song “Bahea!” appears on the Kafundó Vol. 1 Compilation:

Lucio Queiroz aka Lucio K or DJ LK is a DJ/producer from Bahia who has been producing since the late 80’s. Having lived in Rio de Janeiro for many years, he became involved in the drum and bass scene there, where mixing the UK bass style with Samba became popular in the early 2000’s. With his first album “Misturada,” he fused Brazilian music with an innovative mix of electronic music and Brazilian beats such as samba, bossa, baião, carimbo and ijexá in order to bring Brazilian music to global dance floors. Later on, he dove deep in the mashup hype, putting a Brazilian spin on international pop songs:

Now living in Oakland, California he continues his ideology to valorize Brazilian culture and national rhythms. His music continues to be informed by both Afro-Brazilian and pan-Latin beats while also taking in influences from the Global Bass scene:

On Kafundó – Vol. 1 he is featured with a brand new track called “Bahea!” This song brings the Bahian Samba-Reggae roots of Rasterinha closer to the surface giving it an extra-bounce with a Moombahton-ish flavor.
