‘I Feel Like I Feel It’ is in the same neck of the woods as the Weekend (but without the druggy nihilism) and James Blake (but without the British miserablism). Singles are great, but I love albums that work as albums, collections of songs you can live with that deepen over time – Chants’ debut is just that. It’s got this late-night wintry vibe, snatches of melodies and rhythmic beds hand-built from samples, voices, electronics & this breathing sense of space that sets it apart. The cold and quilt all in one. –Jace Clayton // DJ /rupture
I’m excited to announce that my new album is out this week on Seattle’s Hush Hush Records (run by KEXP DJ Alex Ruder)! Getting to know the Dutty Artz crew played a big part in the inspiration/conceptualization phase of this record, and it feels to me like a natural and more personal extension of last year’s Night After EP. Even more importantly, Brooklyn-based vocalist Ramzi Awn (featured on four tracks) and I initially met and collaborated online, but were able to connect irl for the first time to perform lead single ‘Don’t Miss U‘ at DA’s Change the Mood! blowout/benefit.
