AFRICA LATINA @ Brooklyn Tap House 9/21

Saturday Sept 21st Brooklyn Taphouse is launching a new series that may bring some new life to what Ft Greene and Bedstuy sound like in the near future. Going back several years now, Chief Boima and I have been known to throw down together for special occasions trying to cover as much sonic international ground as possible, usually meeting somewhere in the middle like champeta. This new Dutty Artz day time fiesta we’re hosting this fall is called AFRICA LATINA after the collaborative mixtape we released in February and really just an excuse for us to practice all the dance moves we learn from watching kuduro and azonto videos.

Often times when listening to 60’s and 70’s African records one picks up on the influence of characters like James Brown and the funk era on what was happening in Africa, but we tend to over look the huge impact that latin and particularly cuban influences had in certain regions. Add to that the Portuguese influence in places like Angola and Cape Verde and you can find some really fantastic correlations and that’s exactly what we’re about to feed Brooklyn.
