iBomba 2 Yr Anniversary with guest Underdog the DJ

It dawned on DJ Beto and I a few weeks ago that we’ve been doing iBomba in its present form since December 2011. Time flies when you’re playing tunes! I myself got started at iBomba with doing a lot of the promo and booking our guest deejays and trying to figure out how to shape a space that could be valuable to all of our friends and fam making up immigrants, queer folks, artists, and creating a positive dance floor space for everyone who comes through. I was still too shy to play out then.

Flash forward to two years later: Beto and I are super proud of the space we’ve created at iBomba.  I stopped being shy and got on the decks. We moved from a Monday night party to a Thursday night party. And our line-up of guest deejays and performers have ranged from DJ Rekha (Basement Bhangra), Maracuyeah (DC), Poirier (Montreal), Titica (queer Angolan kuduro artist), Rafi El (Los Angeles), Sonic Diaspora (Chicago/Philly), Anthology of Booty (DC), Pajaritos (Boston), Jubilee (Brooklyn/Miami), Rizzla (Brooklyn), BLKAdonis (Boston), PreColumbian (Philly), a whole lot of Dutty Artz fam, and many many more. We’ve helped solidify a deejay scene, connect that to the communities we care about, and we’re happy that people keep coming through.

This Thursday, December 12th, we’re celebrating our terrible twos and we hope you join us. With us, Panamanian-born, D.C-raised Underdog the DJ (D.C/Okayplayer) will be joining  to keep it live. And in celebration of Madiba who recently passed, you may just hear a lot of South African tunes.
