Last night I hit the decks to put together 22 minutes of summer, blended and intensified for your listening pleasure. Stream below. Direct download here [50 MB]. Better yet, we’d love to see you at the party I’m throwing with Dutty Artz crew @ Glasslands in Williamsburg *tonight*! Here’s my original post about the event, a combination birthday party (let’s roar, fellow leos!), fundraiser, and dutty wine dance up.

From Wayne’s great writeup:

Allow me to remind that next WEDNESDAY, July 25, Beat Research will play host, in the Good Life’s booming basement, to a full-blown reunion of Boston’s legendary Toneburst Collective. Bubbling up from Boston’s underground during the late 1990s, Toneburst was a loose-knit crew of DJs, electronic musicians, and video and installation artists, who together produced approximately 20 large-scale multimedia events in offbeat locations around New England and New York. More carnival than rave or concert, the crew’s productions mixed experimental beats, video, and performance art in unorthodox spaces. Beyond throwing great parties, Toneburst provided a platform for such influential acts as Kid 606, We™, Keith Fullerton Whitman (aka Hrvatski), and DJ /Rupture (a founding member)

Everybody likes Italian dates, right? Well I got some:

First: on Wednesday May 16, I’m giving an artist talk in conversation with Simone Bertuzzi at the Triennale Museum in Milan. Right after that, Soundways Records boss Miles Cleret will spin some records, and I’ll close the night with a DJ set. This event is free, and the DJing portion of the evening takes place in the design museum’s backyard garden. It’s nice.

And on Thursday May 17, I’m heading to Venice, where I’ll be performing at the Teatro Fondamente Nuevo. Details. This will be my first time in Venezia, so come say hello!

Now this –

I just returned from Macao here in Milan — it’s a 32-story skyscraper which was squatted 10 days ago by a crew intending to transform the building (which had been shuttered for 15 years) into a ground-up contemporary art & culture center. This morning they got evicted by local police, which simply meant that everyone left the building but the crowd outside the Macao kept on growing… Fascinating moments over here. This Vogue Italia blog post provides background coverage and photos.

Fresh off playing out in Milan along with Venus X and many months flitting about the world Dutty Artz own Chief Boima rejoins us to make you sweat. This episode of the party we’re doing as a fundraiser to pay for a much overdue re-vamp of the Dutty Artz website. All you need to do is come and get drunker than you usually do and you’ll be contributing to a good cause. Myself Matt Shadetek, Atropolis, Taliesin and Lamin Fofana will soundtrack that for you.

I haven’t played in NYC for awhile, so there are many things to be expressed. On the dancefloor. With Mykki Blanco (who’s in that rich moment where various magazines can’t decide which gendered pronoun to use), Prince Rama, & more. Coolest of all– it’s an 18+ show!

We’re heading to California next weekend! Dutty Artz DJs Rupture, Chief Boima, Lamin Fofana, and Narco Iris (along with a bunch of friends — the list above is pretty impressive) will be making things go bump at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. Our takeover hits Friday + Saturday nights, April 20 + 21st. Full schedule. Free for all you boutique hotel people, tix available for everybody else.

It’s Coachella time in that part of The World, so if you want a nice alternative to big festival dust and bathroom lines and beery sunstroke, come kick it with us at the Ace Hotel’s Roadside Attraction… BONUS: this will be Lamin Fofana’s first time in Cali!!

We’re slothing out hard this Sweat Lodge with a special guest from Newark, New Jersey: DJ Sliink.  Sliink is part of the prolific Brick Bandits Crew who have been carrying the torch for Jersey club music movement in fine style. Boima saw Sliink killing shit at SXSW this year and recommended that I invite him to Sweat Lodge and the rest will be history (soon!)  He’ll be joined by yours truly (Matt Shadetek), Atropolis and Taliesin.

Here’s a taste, float to this while you wait:

This February edition of Sweat Lodge we’ve got a special guest for Sweat Lodge all the way from Colombia by way of London.  Isa GT has been a friend of the DA crew for a while now and making and releasing some awesome music. I first met her a few years ago at SXSW when she decided to jump on the mic and MC a little during my set at the Peligrosa / Tormenta Tropical party. It was outside on a patio and I played between Dubble Dutch and NguzuNguzu (before I knew DD!) and it was the first time I heard El Bebe Ambiente by NguzuNguzu. Suffice to say it was awesome and in the process Isa made a big impression on me with her personality. Actually here’s a picture, w/ everyone I mentioned plus Peligrosa madman and homie Orion. My arm looks like a weird snake but really that’s some historic shit right there. I’m happy to say we’ve connected the dots and here she is in NYC!

This weekend I will be busy busy busy.

Mainly with this:

BEMF Flier Lineup

I am playing early at Zablonskis on 11/11/11 (magic date) along with lots of others DJs I love for the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival curated by Mean Red.

ZABLOSKIS:

10pm-11pmMatt Shadetek
11pm-12am Shawn Reynaldo
12am-1am Dre Skull
1am-2am Dubbel Dutch
2am -3am Schlachthofbronx
3am -4am NIKKO
But I will also be opening for Kraak and Smaak at Drom on Thursday AND at the studio at Webster Hall on Saturday w/ my friend DJ Kiva. Lots of great music!

I started teaching at Dubspot in August, thanks to Matt Shadetek. Before I began teaching I was a teacher assistant for DJ Kiva for about a month, and it was during this period that Kiva gave our class a sneak peek of his project 1000 Sunrises, which he finally put out last week.  It always awesome to hear a project during its earlier stages, and then hearing it completed.  Definitely worth checking out.

DJ Kiva will be dropping this freshness November 10th at Le Poisson Roug with Africa Hitech, and he will be rocking Webster Hall with Matt Shadetek November 12th.

The following material was pulled from the Dubspot blog, which Lamin wrote:

Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist producer and musician DJ KIVA returns with a superb new solo album 1000 Sunrises out October 18 on his  Adios Babylon imprint via Destroy All Concepts.

Navigating beauty and pain with deep, mesmeric, off-centered beats, soulful, dub-wise electronic impressions, twirling synthlines, and reinforced sub-bass, 1000 Sunrises is a perfectly balanced album. The six tracks presented here are meticulously and lovingly put together, and they move with an unhurried, reassuring pace. From the opening “Feel It,” with its extra-bouncy thump and unrelenting, catchy synthline to the meditative “Tayyib,” which maintains a solemn and contemplative mood with eerie voices but holds a propulsive groove, and the staggeringly beautiful, mind-expanding title track “1000 Sunrises,” DJ Kiva remains remarkably self-reliant and uncompromising in aesthetic throughout the entire album. Album closer “City Of The Dawn” is the uplifting, post-future, and soulful electronic music you can only get from an experienced and self-assured electronic music producer, whose style and range go far beyond arbitrary and trendy sub-genres. Electronics, melody, dub, and soul come together – same as it never was.

Next Friday September 9th we’re back at the Cove for another Dutty Artz family reunion.  I’d just like to say thanks so much to everyone who came and partied and played at the last one, especially Uproot Andy and 2Melo, I really enjoyed it and I think it was maybe our best attended party yet. For the next one we’ve got Chicago’s own DJ NewLife who has been running one of Chicago’s best tropical/whateverbass parties flying in to drop some bombs for us AND DA’s own Taliesin is back in the states after a crazy world traveling year spent in Brazil, Jamaica and South Africa (and many places in between).  Chief Boima is also back in the building after his own travels in Africa, if you were there for the last one he was dropping some crazy music from Liberia that really caught my attention and I’m eagerly waiting to hear what he’ll play this time.  Lamin Fofana is also re-joining us and I’m equally excited to hear what he’ll pull out with the new DJ setup he’s using, hopefully including some of the new crazy techno-ish stuff he’s been producing.  As usual I will be there DJing, selling hats, shirts and CDs and of course getting drunk and yelling over my friends DJ sets.

I’ve been relaxing these past few days. My time was vaguely starting to resemble that freelancer’s rarity: a vacation. Whatever it was, it’s over. TOUR TIME! Several European dates and some special events in Morocco. But first – Last night was a fun radio show (if I don’t play the entirety of Reich’s “Come Out” bookended by juke trax, who will?)

Today’s party in a Copenhagen park marks the start of the Denmark leg of the tour, where I’ll be playing dates with Mutamassik and giving a free “master class” with Mad Professor.

Full-size tour flyer here.
