The Barrioteca Files: DJ Playero

To any life long fan of reggaeton, DJ Playero needs no introduction. He is the godfather in Puerto Rico. Beginning in the early 90s his mixtapes synthesized hip hop and reggae dancehall rhythms with freestyling en español, circulating around the barrios of San Juan and influencing a whole generation of artists that would go on to break what eventually would be called reggaeton to the mainstream.

Playero launched the careers of so many reggaetoneros including Daddy Yankee, and made the Dembow Rhythm the building block that today is the cornerstone of much music around the world.

DJ Playero will be performing at the Que Bajo Barrioteca Tropical May 9th at Verboten in Brooklyn. Get your tickets here: http://nyc.redbullmusicacademy.com/que-bajo-barrioteca-tropical
