DUTTY ARTZ KEEPS CHANGING THE MOOD LINEUP: SELECTA K7

K71

Up next: We’ve got Selecta K7 for his first DJ set at a Dutty Artz party since relocating to NYC from Memphis. Don’t miss him at Dutty Artz Keeps Changing the Mood on Wednesday, April 29th at the Knitting Factory.

Although he’s from the capital of Crunk, Selecta K7’s late 90’s Internet travels allowed him to grow up on a healthy diet of Jungle, UK Garage, and music pejoratively termed “World.” For 5 years he produced a lecture and party series titled WorldTown, DJ’ing alongside artists such as Poirier, Daz I-Kue (of Bugz In The Attic), Sabo, and DJ /rupture. K7’s DJ sets can be described as a collage of music from brown and black communities: “My goal is to find creative ways to connect global interpretations of the same source– rather it be a lecture, song edits, a party, listening session, or mixtape series.”

Selecta K7 recently launched the Africainoir party with Teleseen highlighting various electronic music from the African diaspora. Africainoir is about connecting tracks of the darker, more percussive and bass driven variety (grime, SA house, UK garage, Afro-House, and others), which he’s described as “the soundtrack to an unreleased Afrofuturist Film Noir set in 2075 Johannesburg.”

Check out his new Africainoir mixtapes below:
