If you haven’t been to the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) in Fort Greene, you are missing out. One of my favorite museums, I first came across MoCADA in 2008 when I reviewed Dread Scott’s “Welcome to America” exhibit at the museum for Racewire (now Colorlines). Founding in 1999, MoCADA is known for its progressive programming, featuring exibits from renowned and upcoming black artists that are shifting the conversation on blackness, diaspora, race, and American culture.

Y’all gonna like this one coz we’re letting you get your work out in early before you stuff yourself on turkey day.

On Wednesday, November 26th, QUE BAJO?! meets BASEMENT BHANGRA  in what has now become an annual pre-thanksgiving mashup of Cumbia vs Bhangra, Bollywood meets Barranquilla, and Samosas meet Empanadas at our dancefloor dinner table in this friendly audio culture clash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This year has been a year of expansion & experimentation for me (DJ Ripley), from the chance to play Lincoln Center with Ushka, Dutty Artz/Kafundo collaborators Buraka Plays Som and Charanjit Singh, to my new gig as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Business at NYU. I’ve also been branching out creatively, with new collaborations in the works in production/remixing (more on that forthcoming), and this week, a new live performance experience – I will be performing a live DJ set with amazing drummer/percussionist/beatmaker Ravish Momin. He is an esteemed jazz drummer and Indian percussionist who has toured across the world alongside many free jazz greats as well as with multiple iterations of his own band, Tarana.

For my Brooklyn heads, I’m doing a party tonight, Tuesday 10.21 at my favorite little Bed-Stuy spot, BedVyne Brew. The theme is: a film noir set in 2075 Johannesburg. The homie Teleseen and I are spinning African tunes of the darker variety. So if you want a chance to hear Gqom mixed with Kuduro, and other heavy Afro-House bits stop by.

Que Bajo heads to Long Island City to bring you a special FOMO-inducing Labor Day weekend warehouse edition. It’s also the official unofficial after party for the nearby PS1 MOMA event during the day. Alongside residents Geko Jones and Uproot Andy we have guests Oscar Nñ, Chief Boima, Mela Murder, and one very Foxy dude from Lisbon, Portugal.

Saturday August 30th. RSVP on Facebook.

Pre-sale tickets are cheaper, it’s more at the door.
